Lindsey & Derek - Married in their own backyard

wedding date - September 27th, 2016

In the winter of 2013, Lindsey & Derek connected in Canmore, Alberta and went skiing for their first date. What was supposed to be a couple hour long date turned into the entire day as they laughed and chatted the whole time, feeling as though they had met each other ages ago. Since then they have been back and forth between Derek's home on PEI, and Lindsey's home in Alberta. When it was time to plan the wedding day, their cottage in Rollo Bay, PEI became the perfect setting. It was a rainy ceremony but with their positive and fun attitudes, it was hardly noticed.

Lindsey & Derek are incredibly laid back and easy to be around. Their wedding day reflected this from the start and the main priority was for guests to be as relaxed as possible. As Lindsey put it - "We broke every rule we could...no assigned seating, ditched the cake and formalities, sat on hay bails and just had a ton of laughs and love."

One of their favorite moments of the day was when Derek surprising Lindsey with professional highland dancers and bagpipers at the reception! Lindsey used to teach highland dance and it has been a tradition in the family to dance at each other's weddings. They had the entire barn moving so Lindsey and her sister even joined in on the fun.

I hope you will enjoy all the laughs and moments from this day as much as I did. Thank you another amazing couple, and congratulations to The Hennesseys!

Laurence & Peter - Outdoor Wedding at Shaw's Hotel

wedding date - September 4th, 2016

Laurence & Peter wanted the focus of their wedding day to be about celebrating with friends and family in a relaxed and casual atmosphere on beautiful Prince Edward Island. Although Laurence is from Montreal and Peter from Halifax, many of Peter's family is from the Island and it is where they spend a lot of their vacation time during the year. When it came time to plan their wedding, PEI seemed like the natural fit! Many guests travelled from away so the Island became the home base for a week of activities to thank everyone for coming from afar.

The picturesque Shaw's Hotel provided the wedding venue on a sunny and warm September afternoon. After the backyard ceremony, we escaped to the beach for photos while guests enjoyed lots of time to mingle, drink, and eat some Island seafood chowder. We all gathered again on the back patio for some stories and laughs before heading inside for their incredible meal and more speeches. Laurence & Peter's friends even surprised them after dinner with a hilarious puppet show depicting how they met and fell in love! Then, it was on to the 'Lobster Trap' barn to dance the night away.

Thank you Laurence & Peter for choosing Prince Edward Island for your beautiful wedding day!

Venessa & Fabian - Waterfront Wedding in Shediac, NB

Wedding date - September 17th, 2016

Venessa & Fabian met 6 years ago through mutual friends at a NYE party in Halifax, Nova Scotia. After only dating for a short time, they spontaneously booked a trip to the Caribbean which turns out would be the start of many more travel adventures together. The pair were engaged a few years later when Fabian popped the question right before their big European vacation. They spent those next three weeks basking in their engagement bliss!

Their September wedding day was a relaxed and casual affair with the ceremony taking place in Venessa's parent's backyard in the community of Grande-Digue, outside Shediac, New Brunswick. The blue sky, warm breeze, and water views made for an incredible set up. Two friendly and welcoming families came together that day, making for a wonderful time. Fabian and I are first cousins, so their day was even more special for me! Ven & Fabian are just the type of people you want to be around. Their caring and genuine personalities made every guest proud to be a part of their wedding day, one we will always remember.

Congratulations Venessa & Fabian!

2016 Favorites

There are so many Thank Yous to be given at the end of each year. To everyone including all the amazing brides and grooms, the family members who helped organize their family photo sessions, the wedding guests who let me sit with them at their table, the people who showed up nervous to their shoot and left relaxed, the fellow wedding vendors who created beauty, the fiances who helped pick out their partner's outfit, the kids that made us laugh, the limo drivers who took us around, the people that didn't grumble when I asked to take their photo, and to absolutely everyone else who was behind my lens this year......I thank you.

2016 took me near and far, seeing so much and meeting so many. To think of all the amazing experiences and moments I've had the pleasure of being a part of can be overwhelming, but looking back through every folder makes me smile, laugh, and say 'awww' too many times. Thank you to each and every client who trusted me to capture a part of their lives this year. Here's a look back at some of my personal favorites photos from another year of the coolest job ever.

Enjoy.

Megan & Mitch - St. Dunstan's Basilica Wedding in Charlottetown

Wedding date - September 2nd, 2016

11 years ago back in 2005, Megan borrowed a friend's spare school ID to sneak into Colonel Gray's high school dance. It was here that she first met Mitch. After sharing a few dances, they kept in touch and have been together ever since! Real life high school sweethearts. Wedding planning began 10 years later in 2015 when they got engaged during a Summer trip to Cape Breton. Mitch later surprised Megan by engraving her wedding ring with "it all started with a dance".

Megan & Mitch wanted their wedding day to be about how everything felt, not how everything looked. This is certainly evident by their expressions, laughter, and happy tears all throughout the day. The amount of emotion was so special to see, and really brought their wedding photos to life. They have the biggest hearts and are loved by so many. Their advice to other couples getting married is to keep things focused on the marriage and not the wedding, as guests are there to celebrate you and your marriage and the rest of the material things will fall into place after that. Very true words.

Congratulations Megan & Mitch!

Mary & Leo - Backyard wedding in Orwell, PEI

Wedding date - august 26th, 2016

Mary & Leo's relationship took off after they both travelled for a mission trip to Haiti in 2012. During that time they spent many days and nights talking about life and how they both viewed it. After returning to PEI with a new outlook, they spent every day together and began their series of adventures and travels, including a working holiday which took them all across Canada in an old RV. They eventually settled and bought a farmhouse in Pinette, PEI where they now grow turnips and look after their chickens, goats, horses, and more. One night at the farm in 2015, Mary arrived home from work at midnight to find a note telling her to go out to their beloved RV in the backyard. She opened the door to find Leo on one knee with the ring, and the rest was history!

Mary & Leo's wedding day was focused on the simple thing that is the true core of a wedding - family & friends coming together to celebrate the married couple in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. They are both such chill, easy going people who care so much about everyone around them and it was a real pleasure to experience it all. From their backyard ceremony at a friend's house, to their casual reception outside the barn at their farmhouse, it all felt right and we had a fantastic time. Thank you so much to Leo & Mary for choosing me to document the day!

Hannah & Rory - Rollo Bay Fiddle Grounds Wedding Reception

Wedding date - August 13th, 2016

Rory and Hannah have been good friends of mine for years and I was so thrilled to be able to capture their wedding day this past August. Their wedding was the kick off to what our friends called "wedding week", two weddings on back to back weekends for the same friend group. What a blast it was!

Hannah & Rory met while studying music at UPEI and after initially starting off on the wrong foot, they were the couple that everyone (but them) saw coming. Throughout their wedding day their love of music was evident in many of the details, including incredible musicians playing their ceremony music, decor, a personal performance for their first dance, and the reception being held at the Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival grounds. With Rory being a musician in the military, we also photographed him in his Canadian Forces dress uniform in the early evening, a special touch to honor his commitment.

As you can tell from the massive smiles in their photos, Hannah & Rory fully enjoyed their day and laughed all along the way. The vibes were amazing, and we will always remember the good time we had on August 13th. Congratulations to the O'Donnells!

Laura & Michael - Blue Sky Wedding Day in Clinton, PEI

Wedding date - July 2, 2016

Laura & Michael met 4 years ago at the Halifax Hypothermic Half Marathon after she saw Michael needed a ride home because of a bus strike. After chatting on the way to his house, they realized they had a mutual friend and were both invited to the same upcoming party on Friday. After dropping him off, Laura didn't expect to see him again but Michael had other plans. The party came and after Michael pretended to be surprised to see her there, they both hit it off that evening and later decided to go on a date. After two years of dating Michael & Laura got engaged at Canoe Cove Beach while visiting PEI for a bike race. Even though neither are Islanders, Laura always dreamed her wedding day would be on Prince Edward Island. Who could blame her?

Thank you to Laura & Michael for such a fun day photographing your wedding celebration. Everything came together in such a perfect way and you really showcased the Island to your guests. I am so thankful to have been able to capture it all and wish you nothing but the best in all of life's adventures going forward! My Home

Last week I celebrated a whole year of being a homeowner! Time has flown by since I purchased my little home last September right before a busy Labour Day weekend. Many people have asked about my place since then, so I thought it would be fun to show what I've been up to! I feel as though you'll never truly feel like your home is 'done' but after a year, the rest of the projects can wait right?

I was lucky to get one of the last units in this Stratford condo and at that time it was nothing but a patch of dirt and some stakes! The building was constructed by Marshall MacPherson who was a pleasure to deal with. It was such an exciting time as I waited impatiently for about 9 months for it to be completed. Being a new build I was able to pick the paint, lights, floors, and backsplash. In this time though I was able to slowly collect everything I needed, and do a little planning for what I wanted it to include. Since I wasn't rushed, being able to save and watch for deals was a huge help budget wise. A friend did joke that I should write a blog on how to furnish a condo on a budget, so I may as well include some of those deals I scored too!

0A9A6670.jpg
0A9A6671.jpg

An important goal in my first home was to have an amazing couch and I found that with this huge Dynasty cuddler sectional from M&M furniture. It was one of my only splurges, but well worth it. My friend had a similar couch and M&M was awesome in helping me find one the same.

One of my favorite things in the home are these 4 framed photographs I took of 4 of my favorite places on PEI. I didn't want to capture them as you normally would, but rather something that looked more like art. From left, the ocean, Red Point, PEI National Park, Bear River Beach. The beautiful quality frames were a bogo deal at Michaels.

Foxhound Collection candle, succulents from Kent Building Supplies and white ceramic dish from Bibles for Missions thrift. Checkered pillows from Homesense, green pillows from IKEA, and leather pillows were included with the couch!

0A9A6667.jpg

Picked up a new shade at Walmart for this lamp from our old house that was destined for the garbage, and with a little clean it looks great! Curtains were $10 a panel from Giant Tiger. Seriously, the best spot for simple, plain curtains.

0A9A6664.jpg
0A9A4924.jpg

The cozy and comfortable living room! I love how the builder included an electrical box for the TV in the middle of the wall so you don't have to run the cords down. TV and mount were both on sale at Best Buy and I saved by not buying a smart TV. With an Apple TV, you don't even need it. The chair is Romeo from Structube, and the prints are from Bibu shop in Barcelona. Frames are IKEA.

I searched for a long time for the right rug, and found this interesting design at Home Depot.

I'm obsessed with the wool blankets from MacAusland's Wollen Mill  and have two of my own. This natural wool shade perfectly fit in with my living room colors. They are even made right here on PEI, definitely check out their products!

This little foot stool was in my grandparent's living room for years and years, and as kids we would always flip it sideways and play by rolling ourselves around the floor on it. It was always a symbol of going to Nannie's and I'm so lucky to have it now. A full reupholster and new stuffing by Ladner Upholstery in Charlottetown really brought it back to life.

0A9A4908.jpg

For my two big house plants I saved on expensive pots and bought regular terra cotta pots, painting them matte black.

This very old plumber's tool chest is one of my favorite things. It came from my Step Father who bought it when he was young and had it in my family's living room for years. I luckily inherited it when I moved in! Now it stores all my board games.

0A9A4911.jpg

A little $15 chair from the 70 Mile Yard Sale makes for some extra seating!

0A9A6695.jpg

Purchased this old brown plastic, carpet(!), and wood record player from Habitat for Humanity Restore and gave it what seemed like a million coats of white paint to turn it into my TV unit. The top flips up and it actually works - I often use it for it's radio! The airplane from Homesense reminds me of all my travels, and the sweet little handmade mountains from Modern Jane remind me of my time living in Banff. The antique clock was a gift.

These golden brass birds hung on the wall covered by a large plant for years at my parent's home. I never took any pass of them until one day I realized how interesting they were and asked if I could take them to a new home!

This milk glass light fixture is the only one in the home that wasn't purchased from Kent. I found it for $20 at Riverview Antiques outside Summerside and after no luck searching for the right electric piece to fit, Burke Electric found an old dusty one in their basement and told me it was so old that I could just have it for free! I spray painted it white and it looks amazing. Thanks Burke Electric!

0A9A6674.jpg

I love to cook and bake for myself and for others, so the kitchen is my favorite place in the home.

0A9A6682.jpg

This style of stool is pretty common to find and they are all the same, but the best price by far (at the time) was from Kent Building Supplies. They were $45 each, bar height.

Cute little $5 clock from Winners matches perfectly!

Value Village knife block, and a refinished cutting board from Riverview Antiques. Had the cutting board sanded down and shined them both up with beeswax and they were good to go.

I love the simple white subway tiles and this cool textured grey floor from Markan Hardwood

Still waiting on the perfect photo or art piece to hang above my kitchen table.

This dining room table has seen thousands of meals over the years. It was the table at my grandparent's house and now has a new home in Stratford!

Pendant lights were the most costly fixtures in the home but make a really cool statement over the bar counter. Teacup print from the lovely Inkwell Boutique in Halifax.

0A9A6681.jpg

The paint color throughout the whole place is 'Horizon' from Benjamin Moore.

I really lucked out on some great deals when Target was going out of business in Charlottetown. Shower curtain was one of them. Mirror from Winners.

Condo 32.jpg

Prints from Nova Scotia artist Colleen MacIsaac purchased at Inkwell. Opted for a simple and cheap Ikea towel rack on the door instead of wall mounted one.

Cross stitch from Emmett & Ellie's.

My room! MacAusland's wool blanket with Ikea duvet cover. Prints from Lila & Lola on Etsy and poster frames from Michaels. Flooring is 'Barn Oak' laminate from Markan Hardwood.

These night stands were $35 for both at Riverview Antiques, and with a fresh coat of matte white paint and new hardware from Kent, they look brand new. Stand up mirror from Winners - $60. Lamps from Kent - $15 each.

0A9A6712.jpg

Where I spend the most of my time at home - the office! This $60 Ikea dining room table makes a large workspace that holds everything neatly. I can't work with any clutter around me, so my desk is actually always this clean! I'd love something more on the walls, but I'm waiting for the right thing.

My new Lacie 12TB backup drive.

Painted this old handmade desk and bought some file boxes from Ikea for some extra storage.

This super cool world map is like a scratch ticket, so when you visit a country you scratch off the foil to reveal the hidden color underneath. I had it custom mounted and framed at Michaels to make it last for years as I scratch away! It's a great motivation as I sit and work at my desk, 20 counties scratched and counting :)

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed the tour of my little home! Have a favorite thing? Leave me a comment below!

Laura & Chad - Bahia Principe Esmeralda Wedding in Punta Cana

Wedding date - may 9th, 2016

A wedding? The beach? Sun? Great people? Food? Drinks? YES, I'm in!

I was thrilled to get the email from Laura & Chad inviting me to be a part of their wedding week in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic this past May. Anyone who follows my Instagram knows I love to travel any chance I get and what better way than photographing a destination wedding at the beautiful Luxury Gran Bahia Principe Esmeralda

With almost 40 guests in our group ranging from ages 2 to 94, there was plenty of excitement for the big day. Wedding day was three days after we arrived and the ceremony took place right on the beach before sunset. The ceremony was performed in Spanish and a local band serenaded everyone down the isle. The scenery was picture perfect and with a bride and groom so easy and fun to work with, it was a joy to photograph. After the sun set we all enjoyed a great meal together and some stayed to extend the party well into the wee hours of the morning.

Even though I had just met Laura & Chad and only knew a few of their guests before the trip, everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming and I felt right at home as soon as we got on the bus from Charlottetown. I had a blast spending the week with everyone basking in the sun, snorkeling, ordering Bahama mamas, eating too much ice cream, and visiting the "disco" a time or two...

Thank you Laura and Chad for being the most wonderful hosts, and to everyone else who made the #happilyeverheron wedding week such a great time! This was certainly one for the books and I cannot wait for the next destination wedding.

Monica & Ryan - Winter Wedding in Charlottetown

Wedding date - January 2nd, 2016

Monica & Ryan's lovely wedding at the PEI Brewing Company officially kicked off the 2016 wedding season with a bang! Already knowing a few members of their awesome wedding party I was really excited to be a part of the day and it didn't disappoint. To top it all off, the weather was unbelievable and exactly what you would want for a winter wedding.

I've been a part of many weddings but I truly don't think I've seen a groom look at his bride the way Ryan looked at Monica. From the first look right to the end of the night, you could tell he was the proudest man in the world that day and it was such a special sight to see. I was so happy to have been a part of their beautiful day and I'm pretty excited to share these photos with you all.

Congratulations Monica & Ryan!

Your Four Legged Friends

I'm a big animal lover and always enjoy when people bring their dogs along to photo shoots. Pets often mean a lot to their owners so I always make sure to capture a great photo of them if I can. After all, they’re an important member of the family too!

Over the years I've had the chance to meet and photograph a lot of happy, smiling dogs - so here's a fun little tribute to them! Enjoy!

Deanna & Brennan - Married in souris, Prince Edward Island

Wedding date - August 8th, 2015

It was a sunny, blue skies day in August and the sound of the fiddle greeted me as I arrived at Deanna & Brennan's home. The boys were having a laid back, afternoon kitchen party as they waited to leave for the wedding ceremony in Souris. Friendly & familiar faces greeted me and I immediately felt a part of the crowd.

Deanna & Brennan are the kind of couple who fully welcome you into their party and make sure you're totally taken care of - Deanna's Mom even packed me a lunch complete sandwiches, snacks and drinks! This group was a pleasure to spend a day with and I couldn't be happier that I was able to capture it all. From Little Harbour, to The Glen, to North Lake, we had a blast photographing their PEI wedding day. Congratulations Deanna & Brennan!

Candice & Logan - Outdoor Clinton Hills Wedding

Wedding date - August 1st, 2015

Clinton Hills is quickly becoming one of PEI's most popular wedding locations, and for good reason! The sprawling property was the perfect setting for Candice & Logan's wedding day this past August on Prince Edward Island. They chose to do a first look followed by photos in several locations including New London and Stanley Bridge. Everyone gathered again at 4pm for their outdoor ceremony in the woods back at Clinton Hills. The shade of the surrounding trees was perfect during that hot sunny day.

A cocktail hour filled with food, drinks, & live music was followed by the reception inside the old barn. Dinner, drinks, & dancing ensued. It was a pleasure to capture the love of Logan & Candice - congratulations to the MacKays!

Katie & Gregory - Candlelight NYE wedding at PEI Brewing Company

Wedding date - Decemeber.31st, 2015

Katie & Greg often debate about how they met and who made the first move, but they both agree it was during high school and had something to do with basketball. Years later, a week after moving into their new home Greg proposed to Katie at the end of a scavenger hunt.

It's been said Katie has had her wedding day planned since she was a little girl, and seeing everything come together on their wedding day it was no surprise. The PEI Brewing Company hosted their stunning candlelight wedding ceremony and reception, complete with florals by Prestige Floral and an archway built by Greg himself. It was a rare experience for me because the first time I saw Katie that day was when she walked down the isle. I actually gasped out loud as she was beaming with excitement and looked completely perfect! Greg had his trademark smile to match.

Their wedding day was filled with great energy and happiness and was an absolute pleasure to be a part of as they are two of the nicest people you can meet. What a way to ring in the New Year!

I hope you all enjoy this wedding as much as I do!

Ashley & Kurby - Prince Edward Island Wedding

Wedding date - July 24, 2015

Right after they got engaged last Summer I was thrilled to get the word from Ashley that they wanted me to capture their wedding day. I've know Ashley for many years,  we were babysat together, went to school together, and grew up in the same small town. Everyone who knows her knows what an amazing, bright personality she has and I knew Kurby must have been a special person to match it.

Ashley & Kurby currently live in Alberta (where they met), so many friends and family travelled across the country to celebrate their day in beautiful Prince Edward Island. As a special touch, it was the last ever wedding performed at Ashley's home church, St Alexis Parish in Rollo Bay. After photos we then travelled to Charlottetown for the reception at the Delta Prince Edward Hotel.

From the many photos and faces of laughter, it's easy to tell this was a day filled with happiness, fun, and pride. Kurby, his parents, family, and friends were all so proud of the wife he had chosen, and the same went for Ashley. They are two very special people with hearts of gold and I wish them all the best in their new lives together. Keep on smiling.

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Sherbanuk!

Jessica & Shawn - Fall Wedding at Centre Goeland

Wedding date - October.3rd, 2015

This wedding was a treat to photograph. A fun loving couple, incredibly friendly guests, beautiful scenery, fantastic food, and great moments. What more could you want?

It was a very rainy October weekend but when Saturday rolled around and Jessica & Shawn were ready to celebrate their day, the rain held off and even better, later that evening the sky opened up to an incredible sunset. They chose to have their outdoor ceremony at Centre Goeland in scenic Cape Egmont, PEI. This is one of my favorite ceremony locations on the Island because of the sprawling property that shines best in the Fall.

It's easy to tell Jessica & Shawn have a lot of fun together as evident by their light hearted and easy going nature. We all laughed a lot at this wedding and had so much fun throughout the day. From lots of cat photos, to many jokes, to some hilarious speeches, it was a day to remember for two really good people. I loved photographing all of it and am happy to share their day with you all!

The three ladies have been best friends for many years and I've now had the pleasure to photograph all 3 of them as brides!

2015 Favorites

From East Point to North Cape, from Belfast to Cape Egmont, from PEI to New Brunswick, 2015 has taken me far and wide capturing the moments that matter to you. I sincerely cannot thank each and every client enough for putting their trust in me this year. It's been an honor capturing every wedding, family, couple, commercial job, and everything else in between.

Each year I sift through every session to choose my personal favorite shots to share. For many different reasons these shots are just a few of the ones that stick with me. I hope you enjoy this collection and I cannot wait to see what 2016's will bring.

Enjoy,

Caroline & TJ - Cliffside Wedding in Cascumpec, PEI

Wedding date - August.28th, 2015

Every time I travel "West" for a wedding, it always ends up being such a fun day filled with the most friendly and fun loving people. TJ & Caroline's day was no exception - including a party bus, oyster bar, and a cliffside ceremony. TJ and his groomsmen even arrived at the ceremony in a pontoon boat, how fun is that?

Caroline & TJ have been together for years and their friendship and love for each other was obvious on their wedding day. I love to see couples who are best friends, and that was the case for these two. Congratulations to the new Mrs & Mr Campbell!

Erin & Nick - Patio Wedding at The Shipyard

Wedding date - September.4th, 2015

I love the story of Erin & Nick. They dated when they were younger, parted ways, and both moved off of PEI to pursue their careers. Years later, they both moved back to the Island around the same time, got in touch, and reconnected. The rest as they say was history and in September of this year they tied the knot :)

Their fun loving, caring, & energetic attitudes carried them through their wedding day, enjoying every minute. They put full trust in their photo and video teams and the results were fantastic. After a breezy, warm, & sunny afternoon of photos they stood on the patio at The Shipyard to say their vows as the sun started to set. It was my absolute pleasure to spend this day with them, and I hope you love this wedding and these photos as much as I do.
